:: How Does Aromatherapy Really Work?
Inhalation - When you inhale a particular aroma the fragrant molecules travel through the olfactory system to the limbic part of the brain. This is referred to as our old brain and is connected to our basic drives, such as hunger, thirst, sleep and sex; it is also the link to memories and emotions. The natural chemicals contained in the oils release carrier proteins and influence feelings and sensations in the body. Essential Oils are able to by pass the blood/brain barrier and work almost instantly to; relax, stimulate, arouse and produce a sense of well being in the body. Depending on the oil used, it is also possible to reduce the sensation of pain.
Skin Absorption - When essential oils are massaged into the skin (diluted into a carrier lotion or oil)
they are absorbed through the capillaries into the bloodstream. They travel through the circulatory system and lymphatic tissue until they reach the body's vital organs. This is how they help to cure many aliments, including bacterial infections.

:: Measuring Tips
Common measurements used in blending Aromatherapy.
The number of actual drops is dependent on the thickness of the oil and the dropper or orifice reducer used.
The best way to clean your glass droppers is to soak for a few minutes in rubbing alcohol then wash in hot, soapy water. Make sure they are dry and clean before re-using in another oil.
:: Blending Tips
Blend oils with similar properties (relaxing, calming, soothing)
Create your blends with no more than 3 oils until you are comfortable with the basic principles.
Record all of the ingredients you use in a blend. Make blends in small proportions. Mix your blend in a small glass cup or bowl.
Once completed, store any remaining oil in a dark amber, air-tight container away from direct sunlight or heat. Label with all of the important details such as the date, the oils used etc.
